LG showcases it’s 2017 line up of new OLED TVs, W7 series (2.57mm thin) panel, Dolby Atmos Sound Bar, Nano Cell Display technology

LG HE and IT launch event

LG Electronics (LG) today unveiled the 2017 lineup of its OLED, SUPER Ultra High-definition (SUPER UHD) and UHD 4K TVs at the event “. These new editions continue to push the frontiers of TV technology, engineering an audiovisual experience that marks another step forward in home entertainment excellence.

The new LG OLED and SUPER UHD TVs embed cutting-edge technology and renowned color science expertise from Technicolor, the same technology used in premium Hollywood productions. This allows consumers to enjoy the most vibrant and lifelike viewing experience that recreates the artistic intent of content creators — all in the comfort of their own homes.

LG SIGNATURE OLED TV Series Make “Wallpaper” Design Possible
The LG 2017 OLED TV lineup continues to live up to its unrivaled ability to reproduce the most lifelike images with perfect blacks, infinite contrast and an expanded color gamut. From aesthetics to performance, the OLED TVs have pushed the limits of what was once thought impossible.

Winning the prestigious 2017 CES “Best of Innovations” award in the 77-inch class, the unique design of the LG SIGNATURE W7 series follows LG’s “less is more” philosophy, stripping away unnecessary elements to emphasize the beauty of the screen alone, resulting in a minimalist TV that is sleek all-round. As such, the W7’s sleek razor-thin profile makes the TV appear to be levitating in mid-air. The OLED panel, measuring only 2.57mm thin in the 65-inch model, can be mounted directly on the wall with only magnetic brackets, thus flushed against the wall with minimal gap as if it were a piece of wall art. The W7 OLED TV also builds on LG OLED’s revolutionary pixel dimming control technology, which renders perfect black without any light leakage to offer a limitless contrast ratio, with one billion possible colors.

The G7 series is another work of art. Its Picture-on-Glass design places the slim, flexible, lightweight OLED panel against a simple pane of glass for a sculptural and modern design. The TV promises cinematic color and lifelike images due to perfect contrasts that stand out against the deep black levels.

Being the first in the world to offer Dolby Atmos, the 2017 lineup of LG OLED TVs offer content with both state-of-the-art sound technologies and cutting-edge imaging. Dolby Atmos puts viewers inside the action with rich sounds that fill the entire room — even the space overhead — with powerful, moving audio that flows around the audience. Dolby achieves this by isolating the relative location of each sound to create intricate, rich and multi-layered audio. Leveraging the high dynamic range (HDR) technology that powers Dolby’s most advanced cinemas around the world, Dolby Vision™ elevates the home TV viewing experience by delivering greater brightness and contrast as well as a fuller palette of rich colors.

“We are honored to be working with LG in bringing the unsurpassed audio and visual experiences to consumers in Singapore,” said Pankaj Kedia, Senior Director, Emerging Markets, Dolby Laboratories. “With the fusion of Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos transforming the TVs at home, consumers can now see, hear, and even feel entertainment like never before.”

Besides the W7 and G7 series, the 2017 lineup of LG OLED TVs will also include a 55- and 65-inch E7 as well as 55- and 65-inch C7.

SUPER UHD TVs Deliver Accurate Colors in Any Viewing Angle
In a joint research study with IPSOS to identify and analyze consumers’ viewing habits, LG discovered that consumers generally watched TV at angles greater than 15 degrees off center1. Out of the 100 households sampled, 55 percent of the participants noticed shifts in image quality depending on the angle that the screen was viewed from. This new study highlights an important aspect of picture quality in TV technology, and that wider viewing angles were key to creating the best possible viewing experience.

With LG’s SUPER UHD TVs such as SJ957T, SJ950T and SJ850T, every seat in the house is now ideal. Buoyed by Nano Cell technology, the third-generation LG SUPER UHD TVs can deliver consistent colors at wider viewing angles, whether viewers were seated in front of the screen or watching from a 60-degree angle.

Nano Cell LCD displays offer a technological advantage by employing uniformly-sized particles approximately one nanometer in diameter. The Nano Cells achieve impressive results by absorbing surplus light wavelengths, enhancing the purity of the colors displayed on the screen. For example, the color green on conventional TVs can blend with other color wavelengths — such as yellow or blue — causing the color to fade and take on yellowish or cyan hues. LG Nano Cell dramatically reduces instances of color fading, image instability and other color degradation issues. Nano Cell technology also reduces onscreen light glow in a bright environment to maintain high picture quality.

Furthermore, LG’s new Nano Cell TVs use improved ULTRA Luminance technology to deliver brighter, crisper image highlights. The new lineup also supports a variety of HDR formats, including Dolby Vision, HDR10 and Hybrid Log Gamma.

LG UHD 4K TVs Offer Lifelike Images and Quick Access to Netflix
LG UHD 4K TVs offer resolution that is four times higher than HDTV’s. The 55UJ632T, for example, boasts In-Plane Switching 4K technology. This promises excellent viewing angles, superb color reproduction and optimal screen brightness. As such, it can be used as a TV for entertainment or even as a gaming monitor that will please discerning players. Every color is realistic, and every detail as stunning as possible.

The LG UHD 4K TVs are also Netflix Recommended, which is only awarded to TVs that have passed rigorous evaluation process such as a fast app launch, easy access, clear display of images and texts amongst many others. This means that the TVs offer speedier performance, launching the app quickly after turning on the TV. Access is easier, as remote controls come with the Netflix button. and the app is also conveniently located on the TV menu. The TVs will also remember the timestamp of where the video has stopped, and users can resume their viewing the next time they launch the app again.

Active HDR and HDR Effect for a More Vivid Visual Experience
LG’s 2017 lineup of OLED, SUPER UHD and 4K UHD TVs all feature Active HDR for displaying next-generation HDR content designed to render brighter scenes and greater shadow detail. Active HDR allows LG TVs to process the picture frame by frame, inserting dynamic data where needed. This technology enables the TVs to offer the best picture even if the original HDR content contains static or no metadata at all. Also, with the HDR Effect feature, SDR images are processed frame-by-frame to improve brightness in specific areas, enhance contrast ratios and render more precise images.

Intuitive Smart TV Platform for a Seamless User Experience
The implementation of the latest webOS Smart TV platform helps make LG’s entire lineup of premium TVs user-friendly. LG webOS 3.5 is equipped with enhancements for easier control and faster access when using the improved Magic Remote and the new Magic Link feature. Viewers can instantly access their favorite services such as Netflix and Amazon by pressing a single button on the remote, tapping into a wide variety of entertaining 4K programming. The new Magic Link button provides a quick gateway for finding favorite content and accessing information about the actors and characters on screen. And with the enhanced Magic Zoom, viewers can enlarge and record any part of the screen they wish to see close up. Connecting the TV to a mobile phone or PC with a USB cable allows one to enjoy eye-popping 360-degree VR content. Using Magic Remote, viewers can move the scene in any direction or zoom in and out using the scroll wheel to view more or fewer details.

“With the 2017 lineup of TVs, LG brings the magic of a cinema experience into the home,” said Brian Yi, Product Director, LG Home Entertainment. “OLED TVs now boast Dolby VisionTM and Dolby Atmos®, so consumers can watch their favorite movies the way the directors intended it when it comes to clarity and depth. The SUPER UHD TVs with proprietary Nano Cell technology also propel the LCD TV viewing experience forward, meeting the needs of today’s discerning customers.”
