If you own one of the older AM4 motherboards, there is some good news for you.
The AMD Ryzen team has recently also worked on a major BIOS update, for our motherboard partners. This update (AGESA 1207) enables nearly any 300, 400, or 500 Series motherboard user, to benefit from drop-in readiness for AMD Ryzen 5000 Series processors, including those new in the portfolio. To see if your motherboard supports this update, please visit your manufacturer’s website.
With the upgrade, you will just need to drop in and upgrade to the newer Ryzen 7 5800X3D, Ryzen 7 5700X (65W) or Ryzen 5 5600 series processors for better performance.

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D: The World’s Fastest Gaming Desktop Processor1
Recently launched on April 20th, the new AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D is built using a new, revolutionary packaging technology called AMD 3D V-Cache™. The Ryzen 7 5800X3D brings all that is great about the Ryzen 5000 Series processors, “Zen 3”, 7nm, and much more, plus an average gaming performance uplift of 5% across select games at 1080p vs. the competition.1
It’s the first gaming processor in the market with 3D stacked cache, allowing for more L3 cache to be installed on the processor (a whopping 96MB to be exact!) which helps significantly boosts performance in games. The highest framerates, lowest latency, and most immersive gaming experience: if you’re a hardcore gamer or PC hardware enthusiast, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D is absolutely the best choice for you and is now available at your favorite etailer!
AMD Ryzen 5 5600: A Great New Price/Performance Option for Gamers
Another new product, delivering a great price/performance ratio for gamers, is the Ryzen 5 5600, the slightly more affordable, “little brother” of the much-praised Ryzen 5 5600X. With 6 high-performance “Zen 3” cores and 12 threads, it’s perfect for gaming at 1080p, 1440p or 4K. In comparison, the new Ryzen 5 5600 is on average 23% faster gaming than the previous generation Ryzen 5 3600 across select titles at 1080p.4
If you’re building a new system, or looking to change coolers while upgrading, the Ryzen 5 5600 includes the Wraith Stealth cooler, and at that great price you’ll be able to save some budget to spend on a higher-end graphics card or a bigger SSD to upgrade your rig even more!
AMD Ryzen 7 5700X: Great at Gaming and Productivity at just 65W
Following the popular 8 core, 16 thread Ryzen 7 3700X, we are happy to bring back this 65W power efficiency “monster” into our line-up. A great option for those who use their system for productivity as well as streaming or recording their gaming sessions, typically running multiple applications in the background. The Ryzen 7 5700X can handle it all. Also a great option for those who consider upgrading using an SFF (Small Form Factor) system, the Ryzen 7 5700X only has a TDP of 65W, meaning it will run cool & quiet during long gaming sessions and requires less extreme cooling and a lower power supply. The performance speaks for itself!
Why Upgrade Now? Higher Framerates = Better Gaming on More Games!
With all these new Ryzen 5000 Series desktop processors and the experiences they enable, we hope you’re as excited as we are. So, why should you consider making a change to your system? One of our goals was to have the AMD Socket AM4 platform supported for as long as possible. With the great architecture that is “Zen”, each generation of Ryzen products allows us to innovate, bringing new, unprecedented levels of performance, while being able to use the same AM4 platform, for over 5 years now.
