Today, AMD unveiled an update to its CPU boost technology, Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO2).
PBO2 is supposedly able to boost performance of single thread performance by using some of the techniques like curve optimiser.

Some of the highlights of PBO2 includes :
Precision Boost Overdrive Scalar – this algorithm uses higher voltages for longer periods of time to sustain boost activity.
Boost Override – You can now set a frequency higher than the stock boost frequency.
Curve Optimiser – It undervolts to decrease thermal adaptively for higher frequencies and longer boost duration. It will improve 1T and nT workloads.
With PBO2, you can achieve higher 1T performance by tweaking the BIOS.
From the performance numbers provided by AMD, it can easily boost the 1T performance of a Ryzen 7 5800X (default from 622 to 638) to a Ryzen 9 5900X (default score of 631).
Multicore performance will also get a boost with the PBO2,
The PBO2 update is available through the motherboard BIOS based on AMD AGESA 1.1.8.0 on AMD 500 or 400 series motherboards with an AMD Ryzen 5000-series processor.
The recommended settings on the respective BIOS should be set accordingly to achieve the results.
