Last week, Zero1 launched 2 5G (NSA) plans at S$22.90 and S$29.90 (90GB). Zero1 Speedtest review here.
Today, we found out that CMLink, another lesser known MVNO of Singtel also published it’s price plans for 5G NSA plan.
The first plan is an 5G add on VAS to it’s existing 50 GB plan. In order to have enable 5G, you will need to top up S$3.50 per month, making it a total of $24.30 per mth.
It comes with 25 GB of roaming data for use in Singapore, China and Hong Kong, 300 minus of local talk time, 300 minutes calls to China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and USA. 300 SMS and free caller ID and free incoming call.
The promotional add on VAS of S$3.50 per mth is valid till 31 Oct 2022, after which it will revert back to $7.00 per mth.
This plan may not be that worthwhile unless you want to spam the speedtest 50 times to have a feel of how fast 5G is.
5G access with S$3.50 add on
Another two plans announced are the 80 GB and 110 GB plan at S$25.80/mth and S$40.80/mth.
80 GB at S$25.80 per month
For the 80 GB (70 GB + 10 GB) plan, the price is for the first 6 mths. It consists of 70 GB data and 35 GB roaming data for use in Singapore, China and Hong Kong. It includes an additional 10 GB data for use in Singapore only (thus making it 80 GB).
The plan comes with 400 minutes of local talktime, free caller ID and incoming calls. It also bundle 400 minutes of talk time for calls to China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and USA. Excess will be charged at 10 cents per minute.
110 GB for S$40.80 per mth
For the 110 GB (100 GB + 10 GB) plan. It consists of 100 GB data and 50 GB roaming data for use in Singapore, China and Hong Kong. It includes an additional 10 GB data for use in Singapore only (thus making it 110 GB).
The plan comes with 500 minutes of local talktime, free caller ID and incoming calls. It also bundle 500 minutes of talk time for calls to China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and USA. Excess will be charged at 10 cents per minute.
Comparing it to Zero1, Gomo and Singtel SIM only 5G plans
There is no need to compare the price with Singtel SIM Only plan as it is the most expensive (but they offer 5G SA and NSA networks). Singtel SIM ONLY plan is a 12 months contract plan, we are putting it below for your reference.
Gomo’s 5G plan is priced at S$25/mt and it comes with 60 GB of data (1st month is 100 GB, a bonus of 40 GB). It can roll over the data to the next month. Free incoming and caller ID. They are also throwing in one month free Sports Plus on CAST.
The good is the roll over of data but after the first month, you only get 60 GB a month. There is also no free data roaming as what CMLink offers. You can add on data roaming to other countries from S$1/day.
Zero1 plans are slightly cheaper at S$22.90 per mth and it’s offer is for 12 months. Similar to GOMO, it doesn’t have free data roaming and you can add on but the roaming charges are not cheap. Roam AP is S$18/mth, Roam World is at S$42/mth.
The other plan at S$29.90/mth gives you 90 GB is probably a better deal.
Both 60u and 90u plans comes with lots of talk time and SMS, 500 and 800 respectively.
Not only that, once you consumed all the allocated data, you will still have access to the internet to stream your favourite videos. It is not known what speed did Zero1 throttle it to. We think it should be in the range of 512 Kbps to 2 Mbps as 720p videos will stream without any issue.
As for handsets that are compatible, those that work with GOMO or Zero1 should also work with CMLink.
Finally, CMLink’s products are probably targetted at specific group of users who require IDD call minutes and/or data roaming. Do take note the 5G offer is only valid for 6 mths for it’s 80 GB plan. It’s 110 GB plan seems to be a bit overpriced at S$40.80/mth.
Do take note that other operators like M1 has a true 5G SA plan priced at S$19.95/mth for 100 GB, some of the VAS needs will be chargable after the 3rd or 6 mth.
Giga also has a 5G NSA add on for S$10 but the speed isn’t impressive and the coverage is quite limited.
Circles.Life should be launching their 5G plan (most likely 5G SA) soon.
As for SIMBA, there is a high chance that they will be offering 5G SA service by end of the year. It is not known if it will be chargable as a VAS.
So, what is your choice of a 5G plan ? Stay put, wait for prices to drop further or jump in and sign up a plan to try out the speed ?
